What are the typical uses for these types of timber?

Sawn Softwood is the most cost effective and can be used for most uses in construction such as internal stud walls, roofing and joinery.

Treated Timber can be used in exactly the same way as Sawn Softwood, but with the added protection against rotting, decay and attacking insects such as woodworm. This particular wood is very useful outside for decking and fences.

Planed Timber has been passed through a machine to smooth the sides, this wood is perfect for frames and out buildings.

Finally, Canadian Lumber Standard (CLS) is generally used for timber frames and is incredibly strong. Being a specialist wood, there will be specific areas in construction which require this grade of wood.
