Plasterboard Accessories
Here at www.buildingmaterials.co.uk we supply the full range of Plasterboard Accessories for use in conjunction with the Plasterboard and Metal Stud system that you are installing.
Jointing products are available to finish the joints of the plasterboard in order to provide a seamless finish in readiness for priming and final decoration. There are a number of different types of Jointing Compounds – powders or readymix – to suit the board type, method of application and personal preference. Gyproc Joint Filler comes in 12.5kg bags and is used for the initial filling stage. Joint Filler has a working time of 60 minutes and a setting time of 120 minutes. Gyproc Joint Cement can also be used at the initial filling stage, but due to it’s longer drying time it needs to be given sufficient time to dry prior to a finish coat being applied. Gyproc Joint Cement’s preferred application is for finishing. Gyproc Joint Cement is also available in Readymix and a Pro Lite Readymix, the Lite Readymix being easier to sand down. As an alternative to Joint Filler and Joint Cement, there is also an “all in one” product called Easifill.
There are a range of Plasterboard Fixings available to fix the plasterboard to the metal stud, timber framework or substrate. The most common are Drywall Screws which come in 2 main types – Point Screws for fixing plasterboard into lighter gauge Metal C Studs and Softwood, and Self Drill Screws for fixing Plasterboard into heavier gauge metal such as Metal I Studs and Metal C Studs exceeding 0.7 gauge. Self Drill or Tek Screws as they are also known can also be used for fixing metal together – for example where Metal Studs meet Metal Channels and for joining Metal Ceiling Channels together. Drywall Point and Self Drill Screws come in a variety of sizes ranging from 25mm to 100mm. You can also get Tek screws as small as 13mm for fixing Metal together. All Drywall screws come in 2 finishes – Brass Zinc Plated (BZP) or Black Phosphate and are countersunk for finishing flush with the plasterboard. Drywall fixings are also available for locating into the Plasterboard ready to take a drywall screw for mounting various items onto the Plasterboard. Metal Nailins Anchors and Plastic Hammerfix anchors are available for fixing plasterboard and other materials into blockwork, masonry and concrete and range in size from 30mm up to 100mm. Both require the substrate to be pre drilled prior to fixing the Anchor.
Driwall Adhesive is used to stick plasterboard and insulated plasterboard direct to blockwork and masonary. Another method of this is using gripfill or “no-nails”. Acoustic Sealant can be used when installing the head and base channel to create an acoustic seal and improve the acoustic performance. This can also be used where the plasterboard meets the ceiling and is also available in a fire rated version.
If you need to create access to services within a plasterboard partition or plasterboard ceiling, there are a range of standard size access panels available to accommodate this. These come in either a metal door finish or plasterboard door finish, and with a picture frame or beaded frame to meet your individual requirements. Bespoke sizes are also avialble upon request.
